Study building
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Study | A research project containing a questionnaire, recruitment setup, responses, and analysis. |
| Section | A group of related questions in the questionnaire. Sections can also participate in routing. |
| Question ID | The stable identifier used to reference a question in logic, custom code, and analysis. |
| Display condition | A rule that controls whether a question or section appears based on an earlier answer. |
| Jump logic | A rule that directs a participant to another question or section after an answer. |
| Flow coverage | A validation check that identifies questionnaire paths or items that cannot be reached. |
| Piping | Inserting an earlier answer or variable into later question text or options. |
| Variable | A reusable value defined for the questionnaire and referenced through piping or logic. |
| Stimulus | An image, video, audio file, or other material shown for a participant to evaluate. |
| Custom code | A React-based interface that replaces the built-in renderer for one question while keeping that question’s answer contract. |
| Custom input | An earlier answer declared for use by a custom-code question. |
| Custom text | A translatable parameter exposed to custom code instead of hard-coded display wording. |
Study lifecycle
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | The questionnaire and recruitment setup are being prepared. |
| Testing | A participant test link is active. Saving questionnaire changes returns the study to Draft and invalidates that link. |
| Published | The study is available to eligible participants and collects responses. |
| Completed | Fieldwork has ended. |
| Test response | A rehearsal submission created through the Test view; it does not count toward live results. |
Recruiting
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Panel | One configured audience source with a response target, criteria, quotas, and provider links. |
| Panel provider | The supplier that directs participants to the study. |
| Recruitment source | Whether you supply the respondents for a panel or DeepField buys the fieldwork. |
| Feasibility | How much of a requested sample can be collected in the fielding window, at the stated incidence and questionnaire length. |
| Screening question | An opening question used to decide whether a participant can continue. |
| Screen-out | The outcome when a participant does not meet a screening rule. |
| Incidence rate | The estimated share of people in the source audience who qualify for the study. |
| Quota | A target and optional cap for a participant group. |
| Quota cell | One answer category or nested audience combination within a quota. |
| Natural fallout | The sample distribution that results when a characteristic is not controlled by quota. |
| Direct invite | A personal participation link created outside panel recruitment. |
| Credits | The unit shown for an organization’s available balance and coding charges. |
| Field | One answer the researcher gets back. A question is one field however many options it offers; a matrix is one field per row. |
| Coding fees | What a study costs to programme and analyse, charged in credits: a price for the study and a price for every completed response. |
| Recruiting fee | What DeepField bills in euros for fieldwork it buys, quoted per panel before launch. |
Responses and quality
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Response | One participant’s survey session and submitted answers. |
| Answer | The value stored for one question within a response. |
| Response status | The recorded outcome, such as Completed, Screened out, Quota full, Abandoned, or Stopped for quality. |
| Rating | A summary of the quality checks evaluated for a response. |
| Quality control preset | The configured strictness used for automated quality decisions. |
| Excluded response | A response manually removed from analysis; the exclusion can be reversed. |
| Transcript | Timestamped text derived from an audio or video answer. |
| Raw answer | The underlying stored value, including the structured value exported for a custom-code question. |
Analysis
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Base (n) | The number of respondents represented by a figure or table column. |
| Filter | A condition limiting the responses included in a chart or report view. |
| Breakdown | A variable used to divide a measure into comparison groups. |
| Crosstab | A table crossing row categories with one or more column groups. |
| Column group | A question or variable whose categories form a set of crosstab columns. |
| Net | A summary row combining several answer categories. |
| Significance letter | A marker indicating that one crosstab column is statistically higher than the referenced column at the stated confidence level. |
| Theme | A recurring pattern identified across open-text responses. |
| Persona | A named respondent segment described in the generated analysis. |
| Saved chart | A chart configuration stored in the study’s chart library. |
| Analysis plan | Saved questions, comparisons, filters, weighting, and output settings used to generate the plan folder. |
| Plan folder | The protected chart folder a plan run builds in Charts, named after the plan. It holds each planned question’s totals or theme charts and, where a comparison shows a significant difference on a testable base, its crosstab. Its charts are editable but cannot overwrite themselves: changes are kept with Duplicate & save, in one of your own folders. |
| Regeneration | A new run of the saved plan that rewrites the plan folder. With the same output language, existing themes and analysis conversations are kept. |
Weighting
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Weighting scheme | A saved definition that adjusts how eligible responses contribute to analysis. |
| Target proportion | The desired population share for a category. |
| Manual weight | A multiplier assigned directly to a category. |
| Raking (rim weighting) | An iterative method used to match targets across multiple weighting variables. |
| Weighted N | The sum of response weights represented by a result. |
| Unweighted base | The actual number of responses behind the weighted result. |
| Weighting efficiency | A diagnostic showing how much effective information remains after unequal weights are applied. |
Access and sharing
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Account type | An organization-wide role: Admin, Researcher, or Collaborator. |
| Access level | Permission on one study or folder: Owner, Editor, Commenter, or Viewer. |
| Inherited access | Access received from a containing folder rather than granted directly on a study. |
| Guest link | A no-sign-in link exposing selected study content for a configured period. |
