Test links allow you and others to preview your study as participants will experience it. Generate test links to verify everything works before publishing.
1

Go to the Recruit Tab

Open your study and click the Recruit tab.
2

Find the Test Link Option

Look for “Generate Test Link” or similar option.
3

Click Generate

Create a new test link.
4

Copy the Link

Copy the generated URL to share or use yourself.

Self-Testing

  1. Copy the test link
  2. Open in a new browser window
  3. Recommended: Use incognito/private mode for a fresh experience
  4. Complete the study as a participant

Sharing with Colleagues

Share the test link with team members to:
  • Get feedback on the study
  • Have others check for errors
  • Verify the flow makes sense to others
Fresh eyes often catch issues you’ve become blind to after working on a study.

Multiple Tests

For thorough testing:
  • Generate new test links for each complete test
  • Or use different browser sessions/incognito windows
  • Each test should feel like a first-time experience
Test links typically include:
  • Your study’s unique identifier
  • A test flag indicating it’s a preview
  • Session tracking for the test
Test links may have expiration settings:
  • Check if links expire after a certain time
  • Generate new links if old ones no longer work
You can usually generate multiple test links:
  • One for yourself
  • Others for team members
  • New ones for repeated testing

Testing Different Scenarios

Testing Screening

To test screening rules, you’ll need multiple test attempts:
  1. Test 1: Answer to qualify
    • Verify you continue through the full study
  2. Test 2: Answer to screen out
    • Verify you’re terminated appropriately

Testing Conditional Logic

For studies with branching:
  1. Note all the conditional paths in your study
  2. Complete a test for each path
  3. Verify the correct questions appear each time
Example:
  • Path A: Answer “Yes” to Q1 → Expect Q2, Q3
  • Path B: Answer “No” to Q1 → Expect Q5, Q6

Testing Different Devices

Generate test links and open on:
  • Desktop computer
  • Mobile phone
  • Tablet (if relevant)
Check that the experience works well on each device.

Test Data

What Happens to Test Responses?

Responses from test links are:
  • Saved to your response database
  • Marked clearly as “Test” responses
  • Excluded from analysis reports
  • Available for review if needed

Managing Test Data

Test responses can be:
  • Viewed in the Responses tab (filtered by test status)
  • Deleted if you want to clean up
  • Ignored (they won’t affect your real data)

Internal Sharing

Share with your team for:
  • Quality assurance review
  • Stakeholder preview
  • Content approval

Client Preview

If sharing with clients:
  • Explain it’s a test preview
  • Note that they’ll see it as a participant would
  • Remind them test responses don’t count

Security Considerations

Test links should be:
  • Shared only with intended reviewers
  • Not posted publicly
  • Treated as preview access
Test links typically don’t require authentication. Anyone with the link can access the test.
If a test link doesn’t work:
  • Check if it expired
  • Generate a new link
  • Verify your study is saved
  • Check for typos if manually typed

Test Not Showing Latest Changes

If your test doesn’t reflect recent edits:
  1. Save your study in the editor
  2. Generate a fresh test link
  3. Clear browser cache or use incognito mode
If you can’t generate test links:
  • Check that your study has content
  • Verify you have the right permissions
  • Contact support if issues persist

Best Practices

Always use fresh links. When doing multiple tests, generate new links or use new sessions to ensure you see the true first-time experience.
Test on mobile. Many participants use phones. Always verify the mobile experience.
Share selectively. Test links provide preview access. Share only with trusted reviewers.
Document your tests. Keep notes on what you tested and what you found. This helps track issues.
Before publishing, ensure you’ve:
  • Generated at least one test link
  • Completed the study end-to-end
  • Tested all conditional paths (if applicable)
  • Tested screening scenarios (if applicable)
  • Shared with at least one other person for review
  • Tested on mobile device
  • Fixed any issues found
